The sections below explain each step and what to expect.

Before you start

You need admin access to each platform you want to connect, such as your Shopify store and ad accounts. Without it, connections won't complete. You also need the Admin role in Polar to add connectors.

Connect your data (steps 1–3)

Go to the Connectors page, find each platform, and follow the prompts to authorize access. Start with Shopify, since your core dashboards depend on it, then add your ad platforms and other tools.

  • Syncing takes time. Polar imports your historical data automatically. This can take up to 24 hours, and you'll get an email when it's done. See Data Syncs.

  • Several stores or brands? You can connect multiple stores and ad accounts, or keep brands separate with Workspaces.

  • Platform not listed? See Custom Connectors, or import data with Google Sheets.

Set up attribution (steps 4–5)

The Polar Pixel tracks customer journeys across your channels, so you can see which campaigns drive sales. Two things matter most:

  • Install it early. The Pixel doesn't track retroactively and needs about two weeks of data before attribution is reliable.

  • Tag every ad. The Pixel can only attribute sales to campaigns with the right tracking parameters (UTMs). Untagged campaigns show up as Direct or Organic. Follow the guide for each platform you use: Facebook, Google, TikTok, or the Universal guide for any other platform.

To check the Pixel is working, see your Pixel status. Once it's running, aim for an attribution rate of 85% or higher. See Understanding Polar Pixel & Attribution.

Check your settings (step 6)

Invite and onboard your team (step 7)

Invite teammates and choose what each person can do with their role. See Managing Users and User Roles & Permissions.

To get new teammates up to speed:

  1. Share this guide so they know how your account is set up.

  2. Point them to the ready-made dashboards for their role, such as Understanding the Acquisition tab for marketing or Understanding the Retention Tab for CRM.

  3. Have them read Understanding Attribution Models if they'll work with Pixel data.

  4. Encourage them to use Ask Polar for questions about metrics and definitions, for example "How is Blended ROAS calculated?"

  5. Have them join our group onboarding session for new users, held every Friday. Book a spot.

Explore your data (steps 8–9)

Once your data has synced, start with your dashboards. They show your key metrics, like revenue, spend, ROAS and AOV, at a glance. Change the date range at the top right, and hover over any metric to see how it's calculated.
