Customize your dashboards by creating your own Views to easily filter your data.
Creating Views is a great way to map several data sources together and create custom filters for your dashboards. You can group individual Views into a Collection to make it easier to manage and organize your Views.
Once you've created a View, you can apply it on your Key Indicators, Acquisition, Retention, Products, Engagement, or Custom Reports dashboards. Some of our most successful customers use Views to easily filter their dashboards by:
How to create a View:
This video details how to set up your first View step-by-step. In this example, we're creating a View that will filter a dashboard by country. Note that this is just an example dashboard, which is why you won't see data pull through to the widgets.
Step 1: Create a Collection and View
Step 2: Add your data source(s) for that View
Note:
If you manage multiple accounts, ensure the correct accounts are selected for each source.
To display data from all sources, be sure to add each source to your View. For instance, if you only add Shopify, metrics from other sources will show as zero.
Step 3: Add filters to your View
Apply Global Filters:
To apply the same filter across all data sources in your View, use the Global Filters feature located in the top left corner. This ensures uniform filtering across your entire dashboard, making it easy to manage filters for multiple accounts or data sources at once.
Global Filters allow you to filter by common criteria, such as region or product, for all data sources.
You can also update the currency in the View, which is especially useful if you're working with stores across different countries.
Filter Each Data Source Individually:
For more specific control, you can filter each data source separately by following these steps:
Select "+Add rules" next to the account for the data source you want to filter.
Use conditions like "is" or "is not" to select available options from the dropdown.
To add multiple values in a single rule, use "is in list" or "is not in list."
If needed, you can add more rules for more precise filtering by clicking "+Add rules."
By combining Global Filters and individual data source filters, you can customize your dashboard's data while ensuring consistency and flexibility in your filtering criteria.
Step 4: Save and Apply the View
You can currently apply Views that you've created on the Key Indicators, Acquisition, Retention, Products, Subscriptions, Engagement and Custom Reports tabs in Polar.
Managing Views
To Duplicate a View:
Open the Views dropdown.
Select "Edit" next to the View you want to remove.
Choose "Duplicate" to create a copy of the View
To Delete a View:
Open the Views dropdown.
Select "Edit" next to the View you want to remove.
Choose "Duplicate" to create a copy of the View
Best Practice: Build Flexible Views with Custom Dimensions
To make your Views more flexible and avoid unnecessary rebuilding, consider creating a Custom Dimension that groups your related data sources (e.g., Shopify stores, Meta accounts, GA4 properties) under shared labels like country, store, or brand.
This approach allows you to apply global filters across reports — without needing to create long complicated Views — saving time and keeping your reporting structure cleaner.
How to set it up:
Create a Custom Dimension
Build a Custom Dimension that maps each connected data source to a unified label.
For example:
Use the Custom Dimension as a Global Filter
Instead of building a View with multiple data sources and filters, simply apply your new Custom Dimension as a global filter at the report level.
Example:
Best Practice: Using Multiple Views at once
You can apply more than one View in Polar, but it’s important to know how they work together.
1. Views combine with “OR” logic, not “AND.”
When you layer multiple Views, Polar shows all data that matches any of the Views — not only the data that fits all of them.
2. When layering may not work:
These setups can return incomplete or unexpected results.
3. Recommended approach:
Instead of combining Views, create a single View that includes all the filters you need. This ensures Polar applies “AND” logic — giving you precise results for the exact data you want.
