Google Analytics 4

Last updated: September 25, 2026

This article covers connecting Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to Polar, fixing connection errors, and the metrics and dimensions available.

Connect GA4

  1. Go to the Connectors page in Polar and click Configure on GA4.

  2. Click Add Google Analytics Account and follow the prompts. Sign in with the Google account that has access to your GA4 property, and check every permission box.

  3. Click Save and wait for the data to load. You'll receive an email once it's ready, which can take up to 24 hours.

If you have several stores, add the GA4 property for each one.

Historical Universal Analytics data

If you connected Universal Analytics before Google retired it, you can keep that historical data alongside GA4. In each connector's settings, turn on the Start / End Date toggle: set an end date on the Universal Analytics connector and a start date on GA4 from when you began using it exclusively. This keeps the two from overlapping and keeps metrics like Conversion Rate accurate.

Fix connection errors

Connection errors are almost always a permissions issue. Check the following:

  • You have the right access. Your Google account needs sufficient user permissions on the GA4 property.

  • You're signed in with the right Google account. This may not be the email you use for Polar. For example, if you log in to Polar as you@yourbrand.com but your GA4 access is on you@gmail.com, connect with you@gmail.com.

  • You checked every permission box during the Google sign-in step.

  • The property has data. A GA4 property with no data can't be connected. Reconnect once it has started collecting data.

If "Select your accounts" appears in orange and no accounts load, you're most likely signed in with a Google account that doesn't have the right permissions.

"Authorization grant or refresh token is invalid, expired, or revoked"

This means the connection's authentication token is no longer valid. Disconnect GA4 in Polar, then reconnect and go through the Google sign-in again with the correct Google account.

If you still can't connect, reach out through the in-app chat.

Available metrics

Raw metrics come directly from Google Analytics. Computed metrics are calculated from raw metrics using Google Analytics definitions. Metrics marked (UA) are only available for historical Universal Analytics data. Explore them all in the custom table builder.

Why GA4 numbers may differ from Polar

GA4 often reports fewer transactions than Shopify or the Polar Pixel, and its totals don't always add up across breakdowns. See Understanding Data Discrepancies Between Polar and Google Analytics.
